Danielle Collins and Ajla Tomljanovic were the two successful women on Day 1 of UTR Pro Match Series as Alison Riske and Amanda Anisimova lost in their matches.
After Reilly Opelka triumphed in men’s UTR Pro Match Series, women began their tournament on 22nd May 2020. Ajla Tomljanovic, Danielle Collins, Alison Riske and Amanda Anisimova are fighting for the glory in women’s competition during the Tour suspension.
The tournament started with an all-American duel between Amanda Anisimova and Danielle Collins. The younger and higher-ranked Anisimova failed to deliver her A-game as Collins triumphed 4-1, 4-2 after 47 minutes.
In the 2nd match of the first day Alison Riske took on Ajla Tomljanovic. Riske took an early lead in the first set by breaking her opponents’ service game. However, Tomljanovic came back to win the first set in a tie-break and dominate the second to take a 4-3(4), 4-1 victory.
Two beaten players from first matches met in the longest match of the day. After Anisimova took the opening set with a 15 minute 4-0 victory, Riske did the same in the 2nd set. In the 3rd decisive set, Riske was leading already 3-0 but Anisimova came back to force the tie-break where she had 2 match points. However, she failed to convert them while her opponent didn’t as Riske won the match 0-4, 4-0, 4-3(6).
