Simona Halep entered the 2020 Season successfully when she defeated Ajla Tomljanovic in the second round at the 2020 Adelaide International.
After first-seeded Ashleigh Barty was the first woman to advance into the quarterfinals in Adelaide, second-seeded Simona Halep followed her. In the second round match, Halep outplayed Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic.
The end of the 2019 season was not very successful for Halep when she struggled to reach semifinals at the 2019 WTA Finals. But the beginning of 2020 is different for the Romanian. Defeating Tomljanovic 6-4, 7-5 did not earn her just quarterfinals in Adelaide. In the new edition of WTA Ranking, Simona will move to the 3rd position as she will surpass Naomi Osaka.
In the next round, Halep will meet qualifier Bernarda Pera or the sixth-seeded Aryna Sabalenka. World number 12, Sabalenka defeated Su-Wei Hsieh in the first round after she lost the first set.
