Angelique Kerber is through at the Adelaide International after easing past Wang Qiang in a 6-1, 6-3 victory to claim her first win of 2020.

Kerber has previously good form in Australia and was a late replacement for Petra Kvitova in the pool of seeded players.

Despite that, there were doubts about the German ace who has won just four matches in her previous nine tournaments.

She ended up dispelling that though against the Chinese ace who despite being World No.28 didn’t have the power to match Kerber in the end.

Next up for the former Australian Open champion is a second-round encounter with WTA World No.24 Dayana Yastremska. She has already gone better than last week with this win as well having lost out to Sam Stosur in Brisbane so will hope this is a start of a good run before Melbourne which is of course a really happy hunting ground for her.
