Who won last year’s Men’s and Women’s US Open?

Russian ace Daniil Medvedev was virtually unplayable throughout the tournament and charged into the final with the concession of just one set. Novak Djokovic awaited, but the legendary Serbian was not at his imperious best, with Medvedev landing the trophy with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 triumph.

Last year’s Women’s US Open 2022 truly captured the imagination of sports fans across the globe. Teenager Emma Raducanu was a 400/1 chance to win the title, but she continually defied the odds each round en route to a fairy tale final with fellow youngster Leylah Fernandez. The Brit simply blew away Fernandez with incessant baseline blows and wonderfully accurate serving to claim a fairy tale 6-3, 6-3 triumph.

How to bet on US Open 2022

:: Information is power. Do your homework by swotting up on the recent form, historical US Open 2022 data, and player profiles. You’ll find all you need on the ATP Tour website.

:: Court form is key. The hard courts at Flushing Meadows require players with fast, accurate first serves and the ability to dig deep from the baseline. Players might be out of nick, but some of the best in the game tend to come alive at the US Open. Because of that, head-to-head data is often surplus to requirements when it comes to finding winners at Flushing Meadows.

:: Oppose fans’ favorites. Partisan support can often cloud one’s judgement when it comes to betting on the US Open 2022. Tennis fans often love an underdog but avoid using this mantra as a betting proponent. Play it cool.

:: Outright winner markets are invariably the key to bigger payouts. After having done your homework, the expectancy will be that you have found your idea of the Men’s and Women’s US Open 2022 winners. Back them before the tournament and, more often than not, you will be rewarded with bigger US Open betting odds.

Men’s US Open 2022 – The Main Contenders:

Daniil Medvedev

Odds: 9/4

Medvedev was absolutely sensational last year and won the title with something to spare. The Russian has not had the easiest of years, but he comes alive at Flushing Meadows, where the zippy courts perfectly led themselves towards his big, accurate first serves. When it comes to having a bet on US Open 2022, ignore Medvedev at your peril.

Carlos Alcaraz

Odds: 4/1

The Spanish tyro has only gone as far as the quarter finals (2001) but the vibes around the Tour are strongly indicating that this might be his year to take his game to the next level. Alcaraz has had an outstanding year and will be a threat to all. He will be winning Slams and many more men’s singles titles sooner rather than later.

Rafael Nadal

Odds: 4/1

Hyperbole was exhausted long ago with Nadal. The legendary Spaniard, four times a winner of the US Open, still has the genius to take top honours at Flushing Meadows. The big issue, of course, is fitness. Given his well-documented problems in recent seasons, that makes Nadal a risky betting proposition.

Nick Kyrgios

Odds: 7/1

The maverick Australian is finally putting his money where his mouth is. Kyrgios will never be everyone’s cup of tea, but he was excellent in reaching the final at Wimbledon and is clearly in a happy place right now. How long that lasts remains to be seen – especially as he has only ever reached the third round. There are better US Open bets available at the prices.

Jannik Sinner

Odds: 14/1

Make no mistake about it, the young Italian is on the march. Sinner has had a spectacular season and gave Novak Djokovic a real run for his money in the quarter finals at Wimbledon. Sinner is a worthy each-way chance and looks destined to improve upon his career-best fourth-round finish at the US Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Odds: 20/1

Few players on the circuit will fancy bumping into the charismatic Greek, who warmed up for the US Open with a confidence-building run to the final in the Cincinnati Masters. Tsitsipas is likely to fall just short but looks overpriced to make his presence felt at Flushing Meadows. Of all the US Open markets, tennis betting odds of 20/1 about Tsitsipas are one of the most attractive each-way selections.

The Verdict:

DANIIL MEDVEDEV is surely the sensible shout to win back-to-back editions of the US Open. The two-times Australian Open finalist could not have been any more impressive last season and though Novak Djokovic was a touch out of sorts, the manner in which he ripped apart the Serb in the final was something truly special. With no Djokovic this year, the stage is set for another Medvedev masterclass.

From a value perspective, exciting Italian youngster JANNIK SINNER has had a fine year. This could be his time to step up to the top table with a strong run.

Women’s US Open 2022 – The Main Contenders:

Iga Swiatek

Odds: 5/2

The top-ranked player on the women’s tour is a justifiable favourite to win this season’s US Open. Her 37-match winning streak earlier in the year was the stuff of legend. The Polish superstar reached the fourth round last year, but it would be a big shock if she didn’t go much farther this season.

Simona Halep

Odds: 7/1

The Wimbledon 2019 heroine has had a fine year and should have a good US Open. Halep is one of the most experienced players on the circuit this year and also has a fondness for the hard courts at Flushing Meadows. She rarely falters under pressure and has the game to match.

Elena Rybakina

Odds: 11/1

Rybakina wowed the Wimbledon masses with stunning performances at SW19 and was simply far too good for Ons Jabeur in the final. She is clearly an exceptional talent, but consistency is not necessarily her strong suit, while she might lack the experience of others on the infamous courts at Flushing Meadows.

Cori Gauff

Odds: 14/1

Gauff looks overpriced if she can bring her A-game to the table. The American teenager will have the fervent backing of the home crowds, but she is not in great form and there are also injury concerns.

Emma Raducanu

Odds: 14/1

Odds of 400/1 are sadly not available for last year’s US Open winner, but it would almost be just as improbable if she somehow achieved back-to-back victories at Flushing Meadows. Raducanu has had a poor year since, with injuries and disruption bigger talking points than her performances. It will take something extra-special to rediscover that magic touch from last year.

Naomi Osaka

Odds: 14/1

Osaka can beat anyone on her day – especially at the US Open. The problem of late, though, is that her days of glory have become few and far between. Injuries have not helped the two-times US Open winner and the perceived notion is that she will once again arrive at Flushing Meadows with fitness concerns.

Aryna Sabalenka

Odds: 20/1

The powerful Belarusian is a fascinating contender. A US Open semi-finalist two years ago, Sabalenka’s powerful serves and booming baseline returns make her an ideal player to thrive at Flushing Meadows. She is also in great form following a strong run in the build-up to the US Open.

The Verdict:

With fitness concerns many of her rivals, it is hard to look beyond IGA SWIATEK, who has the game to take the US Open 2022 by storm. Swiatek has already had a dream year and it is likely to get even better at Flushing Meadows. Of the other US Open tennis predictions, the consistent ARYNA SABALENKA is surely the value each-way call. Sabalenka is in great touch and has twice finished in the semi-finals.
