Spain’s legendary tennis star
Rafael Nadal is reportedly set
to play the
French Open 2024. The 37-year-old is often regarded as one of
the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 22 Grand Slam titles. Fourteen of those titles
came while playing at the Roland Garros and it is because of this reason, he is
also known as the ‘King of Clay’.
Nadal has recently struggled with fitness concerns which led him to miss three out of the four Grand
Slams in 2023. It was because of this reason he announced last year that the
2024 season would be his last at the highest level. The former world number one
returned to the court earlier this year but once again suffered an injury
during the Brisbane International which ruled him out of action for a few more months.
Nadal returned to action during the Barcelona Open but since then has failed to
live up to expectations.
He recently took part in the Rome Open where he was knocked out
after losing in the round of 64 to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets with
a score of 6-1, 6-3. Those performances and fitness concerns sparked rumours about whether
Nadal would be able to participate in the competition he has owned for more than
a decade. But as per the latest report from Spanish daily
AS, the legendary
tennis star is set to play in the mega-event and will travel to Paris next
week.
