2024 Queen's Club Championships Thursday Schedule and Preview: Alcaraz Finds Way to Watch Euros

The schedule
has been confirmed for Thursday at the 2024 Queen’s Club Championships with the
second-round matches, led by the match between two players with good
grass-court records: world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and recent Stuttgart Open
champion Jack Draper.
The four
round-of-16 matches will be played on Centre Court, featuring interesting
duels, including 5th seed Tommy Paul against the dangerous Alejandro Tabilo and
Lorenzo Musetti versus Brandon Nakashima.
Alcaraz makes room to watch Spain's Euro Cup match
The match of
the day will undoubtedly be Alcaraz versus Draper. As the main event of the
day, it was expected that they would play in one of the afternoon slots, which
coincides with Spain's second Euro Cup match, this time against Italy.
Alcaraz's love
for football is well-known, often seen in the VIP boxes at Real Madrid's
Champions League matches when his schedule permits. This time, he won’t be able
to attend the match in person but will be able to watch it on TV since his
match is scheduled for the second slot of the day, giving him plenty of time to
support his national team.
Locally, the
day's schedule will open at 12:00 pm with the Tabilo-Paul match. After that, it
will be Alcaraz's turn to take the court, probably between 2 and 3 pm local
time, while Spain's Euro Cup match will be at 8 pm London time.
The first match
of the day will feature Alejandro Tabilo (No. 24) against American 5th seed
Tommy Paul (No. 13). The Chilean debuted with a victory against Alejandro
Davidovich Fokina (No. 33), in just his second career win on grass, in a match
that was played over two different days due to rain suspension.
Tommy Paul is the 5th favourite of the tournament. He will face Alejandro Tabilo.
Tommy Paul
comes from defeating another South American, Argentine Sebastian Baez (No. 19).
Paul will be favored as the more experienced grass-court player (16-11 record)
after a comfortable first-round win, where he won 76% of points on his first
serve and 46% on return points.
After the
Tabilo-Paul match, world No. 1 and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will take
the court. The Spaniard is on a 13-match winning streak on grass, considering
last year's 12 wins that earned him titles at Queen’s and Wimbledon.
In his debut,
he faced Francisco Cerundolo (No. 26) and secured a comfortable 6-1, 7-5 win,
showing that the surface change was no problem after winning the French Open.
This time, he will face a player who feels much more comfortable on grass and
is at his peak confidence.
Draper won his
first ATP 250 title at the Stuttgart Open last week, defeating Matteo
Berrettini in the final. Draper reached his career-high ranking of world No. 31
and continues to climb, being one to watch for Wimbledon. Currently, the
head-to-head is in favor of Alcaraz 2-0.

Two
lesser-known names will face off in the third match when teenage qualifier
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (No. 67) faces world No. 162 Billy Harris, who
received a wild card from the organizers.
Mpetshi has
only 12 matches at ATP-level tournaments but has already won his first title at
the Lyon Open, defeating Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the final. The 19-year-old
player came through the qualifying rounds at Queen’s and surprised in the first
round by defeating 6th seed Ben Shelton (No. 14).
His rival,
Billy Harris, played against Etcheverry this week and defeated him in three
sets. The 29-year-old Brit has even less experience on the Tour, having spent
most of his career in Challenger tournaments with only three matches at
Tour-level.
The day will
conclude with a clash between young players Brandon Nakashima (No. 63) and
Lorenzo Musetti (No. 30), both 22 years old. They have no previous encounters
and have similar records in the current grass swing.
Last week, both
were semifinalists at the Stuttgart Open, bringing several matches on grass
over the past week. However, Nakashima fell to eventual champion Jack Draper,
while Musetti lost to his compatriot Matteo Berrettini.

- It's been an ongoing issue for too long now. Even though it's not our business to know the details... it's worrisome; disconcerting even. "Gastrointestinal" covers many things. My concern, as an Ulcerative Colitis patient since 1976, is that she has some form of Colitis. I recognize reactions and symptoms. If so, perhaps knowing this others would be encouraged by her own courage in plowing forth while dealing.
