Britain’s young tennis star Emma Raducanu believes that it will be wrong to write off the former world number one Andy Murray from playing at Wimbledon this season. The 37-year-old is often regarded as one of the best British players in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era in the singles category.
Murray has struggled with fitness concerns throughout his career. Because of this, he announced his retirement after the Australian Open 2018. Miraculously, the former world number one returned to the court soon after and has continued to play at the highest level.
This season, Murray has once again struggled with fitness concerns. Earlier, he suffered an ankle injury which ruled him out of action for more than two months. After returning to the court following the ankle injury, the Glasgow-born star announced that he would like to retire from the upcoming Olympics and Wimbledon.
However, the three-time Grand Slam winner once again suffered a back injury during the Queen’s ATP Championship, which forced him to undergo surgery as well. On Sunday, British media outlet the Independent reported that Murray has been ruled out of Wimbledon 2024 as he will not be able to recover from the recent surgery in time. His mother Judy denied the news on Monday in a post on her official social media account.
Raducanu, who has also struggled with fitness concerns throughout her career and returned to the court earlier this season after spending nearly 12 months on the sideline, was recently quoted in a report where she asked everyone to wait for the official announcement. The Toronto-born star was of the opinion a lot of times, news in the media are not factually correct. “I think it’s very easy to jump to conclusions very quickly. I don’t know what’s going on at all but I just wouldn’t believe everything that’s said in the press because a lot of the time it’s not the full story at all,” she said.
