American tennis star Taylor Fritz has revealed that he is ‘worried’ about his fitness concerns after suffering a defeat at Wimbledon. The 26-year-old suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the quarterfinal of the third Grand Slam of the year on Wednesday to Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in a five-set thrilling contest with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
While talking to the media after the defeat, Fritz admitted that he is ‘worried’ about his fitness. The world number 12 revealed that he is concerned about how playing on clay court impacts him, especially after suffering an injury during the French Open earlier, which, according to him, was 'worse' than it looked.
"I'm a little worried about how clay courts will affect me,” he said. “I don't know how many people know this, but my injury at the French Open was probably worse than it looked. It's an injury that bothers me a lot more when I slide, spreading my legs too much. I'll go back to the physio immediately and try to work as hard as I can to be competitive on clay as well. But I'm a little worried about how this transition will affect my body.”
Fritz’s journey at the Roland Garros was not impressive as he lost in the third round to Norway’s Casper Ruud with a score of 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. The result on Wednesday was another disappointing one for Fritz, who has now suffered three defeats in the last four Grand Slams last-eight clashes.
The San Diego-born star lost in the quarterfinal of the 2023 US Open to Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. Earlier this year, Fritz against to Djokovic in the quarterfinal, this time in the Australian Open, with a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
