American tennis player Taylor Fritz was lambasted by BBC pundit Pat Cash for his "inappropriate" gesture during his post-match net exchange with French opponent Arthur Rinderknech in the second round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
Both men had faced each other at the French Open earlier this year, with Fritz prevailing in the highly emotional contest. Following his victory, Fritz shushed the Parisian crowd, leading to Rinderknech having some choice words for the American ahead of their rematch at the All England Club. The Frenchman stated that at Wimbledon, "the atmosphere will be quieter and he won't cry as much" compared to their previous meeting.

Cash believes Fritz's actions were uncalled for

The highly anticipated rematch saw Fritz triumph in four sets. As both men met at the net following the match, Fritz shook Rinderknech hand before telling the Frenchman to "have a nice flight home."
"Yeah that's not cool, that's not good," said Cash ahead of Fritz's quarterfinal clash against Lorenzo Musetti. "That's not good, it's inappropriate and he doesn't have a lot of mates on this tour, does he?
"(But) he doesn't really care, he wants to get out there and does his stuff, he's not overly friendly but he doesn't care. You're not going to get any more mates from saying 'have a flight home' though."
Fritz's Wimbledon journey would end in the quarterfinals, as 13th seed fell to Musetti in five grueling sets.
