Former Roger Federer coach, Ivan Ljubicic has pointed out a flaw in the logic of
Novak Djokovic thinking the crowd were booing him in that why would they boo somebody winning a point if they are supporting him in the case of Holger Rune.
But also Ljubicic sees it as an added boost for him in terms of motivation and concentration in order to have something to really get his back up and fight for the win. He also lauded Djokovic for the manner in which he sealed victory against Rune. He called it perfect tennis and the test that his body perhaps needed to say that he is there and still fighting.
He will face Lorenzo Musetti in the semi-finals of 2024
Wimbledon. He moved straight through after Alex de Minaur had to withdraw due to injury and it is the Italian over Taylor Fritz who he has an incredible record over. That was sat at 9-0 and while he has a good record against Musetti, the Italian has caused him problems in the past. He just hasn't found a way to put him away in a major yet. He will think though finally that it is his time.
"I've heard Rune fans celebrate like this before. If they did it to annoy Nole, it's something they've already done. So I don't know. I've seen a lot of people try to distract Nole in many different ways," said Ljubicic on Sky Sport.
"This is an original way, because I don't see any logic in celebrating with a boo when a player scores a point. But he interpreted it like this, using this thing to have more concentration. But we have to talk about his match, that's what I think needs to be told. Perfect tennis. If this was a test to understand the condition of his body, we can absolutely say that Novak is there and how," he explained.
