Ivan Ljubicic's Wimbledon 2024 forecast: poised for an Carlos Alcaraz - Jannik Sinner showdown

Ivan Ljubicic, the ex-coach of former world number one Roger Federer, believes that Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik Sinner are the favourites for the upcoming Wimbledon 2024. The third Grand Slam of the year is set to begin on Monday, and players from all over the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.

Ljubicic was recently quoted in a report where he named his favourites for the competition. The 45-year-old named Alcaraz and Sinner as the players to watch out for in the upcoming mega-event. “Right now, my favorites are Jannik and Carlitos,” he said. “The first three-four rounds will tell us what condition all the protagonists are in. If the best survive the first week, they will become increasingly favourites."

Lubicic also went on to praise Sinner and believes that he is a perfect role model for youngsters. "I think Jannik Sinner is a wonderful example for young people,” he said. “Not that others aren't, but he has a particular way of doing things: he doesn't get excited when he wins and he doesn't make dramas when he loses. He does his job, he does what he says: His greatest talent is to get to work.”

Both Alcaraz and Sinner are already regarded as two of the best players currently playing in the men’s tennis in the singles category. The Spaniard has recently lifted the French Open title after beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

On the other hand, Sinner is going through a fabulous season, so he recently became the world number one in the ATP rankings. He replaced Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic, who was forced to withdraw from the French Open after suffering a knee injury just before the start of the quarterfinal against Casper Ruud. The 22-year-old won his maiden Grand Slam title this year as he lifted the Australian Open after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–3.
