Once again, the Berlin Ladies Open has an interesting predicament with again only Victoria Azarenka actually able to breathe in Germany with a stacked Saturday feel to proceedings due to rain.
Victoria Azarenka was the only player who was able to get any sort of match in albeit she moved through after Elena Rybakina retired unwell against the Belarusian feeling dizzy in yet another dismal retirement from the Kazakh.
But it means that although Azarenka won't have to return to play two matches tomorrow, all others will. Matches that didn't even get underway include Aryna Sabalenka who is second seed this week facing off against Anna Kalinskaya. The latter benefitting largely from Marketa Vondrousova's unfortunate slip retirement yesterday.
Sabalenka for most of the week has not really been playing with the World No.3 not starting her campaign until late in the week in Berlin. While Ons Jabeur v Coco Gauff which perhaps is the match of the day didn't get underway either. It too will be rescheduled until Saturday.
As will Jessica Pegula v Katerina Siniakova which was the rain casualty at one set all and so as a result, all players aside from Azarenka will not only play Quarter-Finals but also semi-finals. They will then return to play the final on Sunday before starting another week where many will play. Certainly not ideal ahead of Wimbledon but the weather can be one cruel mistress and for Barbara Rittner and the Berlin Ladies Open, it certainly hasn't helped this week.
