Britain's tennis star Katie Boulter discusses handling pressure and her ambitions

Britain’s tennis star Katie Boulter has opened up about her objective before the Wimbledon season. The 27-year-old is Britain’s number-one player and has been around for a while, during which time she has delivered several impressive performances.

While talking to Eurosport, Boulter explained how she has been handling the pressure of being the country's number one player.

The Leicester-born star also stated that her focus remains on becoming the best version of herself by playing good tennis consistently, week in, week out.

"It [being British No.1] is a privilege, but it is not my sole focus," she said. "My No. 1 focus is to keep my attitude right and my number going in the right direction, play week in, week out and work hard.

Boulter is currently participating in the Rothesay Open, where she is defending her title. The world number 30 booked her place in the third round of the mega-event after beating Rebecca Marino of Canada with a score of 6-4, 6-3.

Talking about her ambition in the competition, Boulter stated that she feels no pressure and believes that winning matches while defending her title is a step in the right direction.

"I don't feel like the defending champion at all right now,” she said. "I am here and I am just playing, I have no pressure. I take it as a massive step in the right direction that I am here as defending champion and winning matches.”

Boulter is not having a great 2024 season. She has struggled to perform consistently. She started the year at the Australian Open, where she lost in the second round.

After that, she lost in the second round of the Linz Open, the first round at Indian Wells, the third round of the Miami Open, the second round of the Madrid Open, the second round of the Rome Open, and the first round of the French Open.

Her best outing this season came in the San Diego Open, where she finished as the runner-up after losing in the final to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
