A HUGE win 💪 @milosraonic serves a record-breaking 47 aces as he defeats Norrie in the first round at @QueensTennis!
Milos Raonic set a new all-time aces record in his win over Cam Norrie at the Queen's Club Championship. The former world No. 3 showed he is still going strong on grass, setting an incredible record for aces in a three-set match.
Despite barely playing in recent years, the 33-year-old Raonic continues to put in strong performances on Tour. The Canadian is only playing his fourth tournament of the year and is ranked world No. 186, yet he still managed to put in a historic performance against the home side Norrie.
Raonic's serve is recognised as his main weapon and grass-swing is always an ideal stage for him to be at his best. The Canadian achieved an unexpected record in his debut in Queens with a total of 47 aces in the match, an all-time record in best-of-three-set matches on any surface. The previous record was held by Croatia's Ivo Karlovic, who scored 45 aces at Halle 2015.
The 33-year-old scored with 13 aces in the first set, 16 in the second and 18 in the third to take a thrilling match 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-6 (9) after two hours and 15 minutes. 47 of the 110 points he scored throughout the match were aces, meaning that 42.5% of his points were aces.
Raonic returns to the second round at Queen's after five years since his last appearance at the tournament. His best result was runner-up in 2016, when he lost to Andy Murray, a final that was repeated a few weeks later at Wimbledon, where the Briton again took the title.
Raonic's next challenge will be in the last 16 against the winner of the match between qualifier Tatro Daniel and 4th seed Taylor Fritz.
