Bob and
Mike Bryan retired last August and now 5 months into their retirement they are enjoying it to the fullest.
One of the most accomplished and legendary doubles teams in tennis called it a day five months ago and so far they have no regrets. Speaking about life after tennis, which Mike jokingly referred to as the 'afterlife', he said:
“Now we’re enjoying the afterlife. We’ve both got families. A lot of time with our kids. We understand how important it is to put that energy into raising good human beings."
The Brothers have 4 children in total with Mike having one and Bob having three. Even before retiring family was something extremely important to the brothers. Looking back on their storied 23-year long career Bob explained how he didn't miss it too much:
“We had a great 23 years, it’s almost too much time to do one thing. I don’t miss it too much right now, but I do miss waking up having something to shoot for. The goals, the tournaments, just improving the game, having something to shoot for."
Competition is something natural for the brothers and that is something that will never leave them. Bob find new ways to compete by trying out new stuff:
“The competition is fun. I’m getting now into chess, parcheesi, other games.”
To wrap up the conversation between brothers and longtime doubles partners they each gave their opinion on why retiring was the right thing to do. Bob said:
“We had a blast, but it was our time to step aside,” while Mike followed that up with: “I’m just going to miss the Tour. This is what we’ve done for so long, it’s so comfortable. It’s a really simple life.”
