World number one Jannik Sinner revealed that he saw the special talent in Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz when the two met during an early-age contest. Both players are already regarded as two of the best currently playing men’s tennis in the singles category, along with Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Sinner was recently quoted in a report where he stated that he realiased Alcaraz’s special talent when the two played at an early age. "He was already playing better tennis than me, I still remember the match. He was 15 and two years younger than me, which is a huge difference at that age, and I thought for sure he is something special. You could see it and feel it,” he said.
Sinner is going through a fabulous season which helped him to become the world number one. The 22-year-old won his maiden Grand Slam — the Australian Open — after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. He then went on to win the ATP event in Rotterdam, where he got the better of Alex de Minaur in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
Sinner’s third title this year came in the Miami Open, where he defeated Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-1. His most recent title was the Halle Open, where he defeated Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz with a score of 7-6, 7-6. He is currently taking part in Wimbledon, where he has already booked his place in the second round after beating Yannick Hanfmann in the opening round with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
On the other hand, Alcaraz is also going through a very good season. He recently won his third Grand Slam as he lifted the French Open after beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. His other title this year was the Indian Wells, where he defeated Russia’s Medvedev in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-1.
