Despite not having the marked results or titles of his counterparts,
Holger Rune has shared his desire to form a new Big Three at the top of tennis alongside Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz ahead of his
Wimbledon campaign starting.
Rune reached the Quarter-Finals of Wimbledon last year and has long been touted albeit without the results or titles of his counterparts. But he hopes he can change that and form something similar to Djokovic, Nadal and Federer.
Rune is set to face Soonwoo Kwon this afternoon and said that any talk of a supposed new Big Three is only good for the sport. "We cannot compare ourselves at all yet to Novak, Rafa and Roger,β he said to The Telegraph. "But the fact that people are starting to talk about the Next Big 3 is exciting. Itβs what makes tennis bigger, exciting. Rivalries are very important."
βItβs interesting to have all characters, thatβs why hopefully theyβll be calling us the next Big Three. Iβm myself and Iβm happy to be me. I thought if I could stay consistent I could have already maybe had one (Grand Slam)."
βIβve just got to believe in what Iβm doing now and trust the process. How Iβm best on the court is if Iβm controlled when things go against me and when things go with me that I show emotions,β Rune said.
βI think Rafa is a great example of someone showing a lot of emotion, but a lot of good emotion on court. Itβs a big inspiration. If we take those Big Three, because theyβve been the greatest of all time, I donβt think Iβm ever going to be having a Roger Federer attitude on court, because itβs not in my character to be more quiet.
βI think Sinner is maybe closer to that. Iβm young and still learning. Itβs important to try to take whatβs best from each player and if I could take someoneβs attitude I would take Rafaβs.β
