After comments from Frances Tiafoe calling the players he has lost to recently clowns, Alexander Bublik used it in a hilarious manner to describe his recent form since getting injured which left those on the desk at the Tennis Channel in stitches.
Bublik will play Tommy Paul in the third round of Wimbledon tomorrow. He saw off Jakub Mensik in the first round coming from two sets down to seal the win.
His win over Arthur Cazaux in the second round was a bit more straight forward but with injury woes recently blighting him, he described his time away from the sport.
"For the first few weeks I played I got hurt at the beginning before a match against Musetti. I was barely walking and I was really struggling," said Bublik to Tennis Channel.
"I wanted to play Halle, I was told not to. I wanted to play Eastbourne I was told not to because it would possibly harm Wimbledon. I said I will take the risk I will try because it's my favourite surface."
"It was very disappointing for me and my team to lose against you know what Tiafoe said."
The comments he was referencing to were ones that were heavily slammed by fans and players alike by Tiafoe about going from the top 10 to in his view losing to clowns.
“It’s brutal. Highs and lows. Think about where I’m at. Literally this week last year I was 10 in the world and now I’m barely seeded here (at Wimbledon),” the American said. “Losing to clowns, I hate to say it but I’m just gonna be honest.
“I took the game for granted and got a little too comfortable. You stop having fun with it and you find yourself in a weird position. Then you kind of forget what you were doing to win?”
“You start doubting yourself and all these kinds of things.
“But it’s the game. It’s like anything, nothing is peaches and cream all the time. It’s about how fast you can kind of get out of that. And there is always light at the end of the tunnel, whether you either try and find it with small wins or continue to feel sorry for yourself and continue to play victim, that’s where it just gets darker and darker and darker.”
