Boys' and Girls' singles is also a very interesting part of the Australian Open as many future stars win the trophies every year.
In the boys' draw, we did not see any big surprise. The first-seeded Harold Mayot fought his way to the final when he defeated Sanchez Martinez, Mayo, Bernard, Stricker and Legout. In the final, he faced his countryman Arthur Cazaux who en route to the final outplayed the second-seeded Martin Damm.
The final was pretty much one-sided for the higher-ranked player in the ATP Ranking. 17-years-old Mayot is already a number 527 in the ATP Ranking whereas Cazaux sits just on 1077 place. After 68 minutes and a 6-4, 6-1 victory Mayot lifted the trophy for the boys' champion in singles.
In girls' draw, we have seen more surprises as none of the TOP 8 players reached the final. The first-seeded
Elsa Jacquemot lost already in the second round to Alexandra Vecic who then reached semifinals. But there, she was defeated by the later runner-up Weronika Baszak.
Probably the biggest surprise of the tournament was Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva. Only 14-years-old 9th-seeded girl defeated the second-seeded Robin Montgomery in the quarterfinals despite losing 1-6, 3-5. Then she defeated also
Zhuoxuan Bai and Weronika Baszak to win the trophy among the girls.
