Anett Kontaveit left her fans worried after losing the opening set in her Tallinn opener but she made them very happy with a comeback win 3-6 6-2 7-5.
Kontaveit finally fulfilled her dream of playing in a WTA event on native soil as the Estonian won in her Tallinn opener. She campaigned for this event many years and finally saw it happen this year with her start being a good one.
It wasn't initially as Wang came out on fire hitting the ball really well against a very nervous Kontaveit who could not find her rhythm at all to start the match. 6-3 was the score for Wang in the opening set but Kontaveit established control in the second set.
Kontaveit opened the second set with an early break and it injected her with much-needed confidence as she started to play much better. She added another late one to win the second set 6-2 and completely smashed Wang early in the final set only to complicate things further. She was up 5-1 but allowed Wang to battle back to 5-5 with Kontaveit escaping 7-5.
A good start for Kontaveit as the Estonian finished last year on a very high note winning a couple of trophies indoors. She already won one this year as well.
