Will Smith hoped to honor Richard Williams with his portrayal in 'King Richard'

With 'King Richard' released in theatres on November 19, thousands of fans will have the opportunity to witness the upbringing and early years of the Williams' sisters in their new biopic.

The film stars Will Smith, who portrays Richard Williams, the father of WTA legends Serena Williams and Venus Williams. It centers around the relentless efforts of Richard Williams in ensuring his two daughters achieved their dreams of becoming professional tennis players, as they overcame insurmountable odds and smashed expectations set before them.

In an interview done to promote the movie, Smith stated that his main goal was to honor the Williams patriarch when depicting him in the biopic. Furthermore, he hoped to celebrate his legacy, as Richard was instrumental in shaping his daughters' unyielding commitment to the sport.
