Italy’s tennis star Jannik Sinner has achieved success in
the recently concluded China Open against all odds, showing the kind of character
that is not very common nowadays.
The 22-year-old started the competition vomiting during the
match against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov but still ended up winning the tie in
three sets with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
After that, Sinner never looked back and he defeated the current
world number two Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 7-6, 6-1.
That was not enough as he ended up lifting the title after
beating the world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final with a
score of 7-6, 7-6. Those performances were a testament to Sinners’ character.
The world number four will be hoping to continue the winner
runs in the last few months of the calendar year.
Overall, Sinner had a hard time producing in the Grand Slams
where despite being selected in the main round of each of the mega events, he managed
to qualify for the quarterfinal or beyond in just one of them.
His best appearance in any of the Grand Slams came in Wimbledon
where he played the semifinal and lost to Serbia’s Novak Djokovic with a score of
6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
