The
Davis Cup is underway this week with several high-profile players defending the colours of their countries.
Chief among them are Spanish duo
Carlos Alcaraz and
Roberto Bautista Agut. The older player was the first to step out onto the courts and he had no issues on the clay courts of Marbella. He faced Boitan and easily cruised to a 6-3 6-1 victory. The Romanians are heavy outsiders in this match and Carlos Alcaraz proved that in the 2nd round. Taking on the veteran Copil, Alcaraz also cruised 6-4 6-3.
The Spaniards have a commanding 2-0 lead after day one and will look to win the tie tomorrow with the doubles matchup. Elsewhere in the world Australia and Hungary are playing another interesting tie. After day one concluded we have a tie at 1-1.
Alex De Minaur won the opening match for the Aussies in Sydney taking down Piros Zsombor 7-5 6-2.
In the 2nd set, we saw Kokkinakis take on Fucsovics and the Hungarian was able to prevail in three sets winning 7-6(4) 1-6 6-3. Kokkinakis had to take a medical timeout during the match and it's unclear whether is a serious injury or not. If so, it will be a huge disappointment for the Aussies who are facing strong opposition from Hungary.
