World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz resumed his quest to defend his crown at the 2023 Miami Open, making short work of Taylor Fritz en route to his second straight semifinal at the event.
Alcaraz required just an hour and 18 minutes to pull off the victory, outclassing Fritz 6-4 6-2 in dominant fashion. Despite the American being a home-favorite, he was unable to withstand the firepower emanating from the Spaniard's racket.
The defending champion was aggressive from the start in each set, obtaining a break and never looking back. Furthermore, Alcaraz saved both break points faced whereas Fritz was unable to prevent his Spanish opponent from capitalizing on his service errors, hitting five double faults in the process.
With this victory, his 10th in a row, Alcaraz improved to 18-1 record in 2023. He is now two wins from becoming the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to claim the trophies at Indian Wells and Miami in succession. The Spaniard will face in-form Italian Jannik Sinner for a spot in the final.
