Alexander Zverev was supposed to be the number one seed at the MercedesCup in Stuttgart but the German withdrew as he is still in the main draw of Roland Garros..
When Roland Garros got pushed back by one week it created some difficulties in the ATP Calendar. The 2nd week of the Grand Slam coincided with two grass-court ATP events in Stuttgart and 's-Hertogenbosch. The event in the Netherlands was cancelled with the MercedesCup going ahead.
The top seed was supposed to be Alexander Zverev but after reaching the 2nd week at Roland Garros he was forced to withdraw from an event he likes to play. Zverev is set to play later today against Davidovich Fokina for a place in the semifinal.
Zverev last played against Kei Nishikori whom he defeated in straight sets and after the match, the German expressed hope that he can continue to play as he did so far, possibly even better. The MercedesCup officially starts today and it will run till June 13th. The top seed is Denis Shapovalov.
