Andrey Rublev is in the Nordea Open semifinal after beating Laslo Djere in straight sets 7-5 6-4 moving to 2-1 in their H2H.
The Russian was eager to return to tennis after not playing Wimbledon and it's showing in his game. The rust is not there anymore and he's playing better and better. Today was another strong performance as he was able to avoid playing the 3rd set. He started well breaking Djere in the first game of the match but then lost it in the next game.
He was immediately frustrated and he vented a couple of times during the match but he was able to control his emotions rather well. Djere proved quite sturdy for Rublev holding up rather well against the Russian. Towards the end, Rublev was able to impose his will onto the match and seal the opening set 7-5.
He attacked well with his forehand but there were few chances in general. It was a patience game for Rublev and he was able to outwait his opponent. The start of the 2nd set featured a great chance for Djere but he squandered a 40-15 on the Russian's serve. He held up for a while but then Rublev played a superb game to go ahead 5-3.
He faced issues while trying to serve out the match at 5-4 being down 15-40 but he was able to battle back and convert his 3rd match point to win the match and advance to the semifinal.
