Andy Murray to play at Miami Open after receiving a wild card

Andy Murray will play at the Miami Open 2021 which will run from March 24th till April 4th after receiving a wild card entry.

The 33-year old British former world number one will return to tennis at the Miami Open 2021 after receiving a wild card entry. He last played at the Rotterdam Open where he reached the 2nd round losing to eventual champion Andrey Rublev. He was set to play in Dubai but decided to skip it for the birth of his 4th child.

The 2x Miami Open champion commented on the opportunity by saying:

"It's a city I love, and I've spent a lot of time here over the last 15 years, I feel comfortable. But over the next few months, I want to play matches — especially against the top players — work on my game and climb the rankings. I want to get back playing a sport I love."

He last played at the Masters 1000 event in 2016 and he will be excited to return to the city where he maintained a training base before. Besides the victories in 2009 and 2013, he was a finalist in 2012 and 2015 proving just how comfortable he is with the conditions in Miami. He also briefly commented on the opportunity to play tennis in general again:

"The last few years have been really hard. After the operation, there were no guarantees I would play again, but I've been working very hard on my conditioning and over the last few months I've felt the best I have for years. I'll need to be mindful of my schedule moving forward but I'm excited to be back competing — with a metal hip."

As noted above the event will run from March 24th till April 8th and we will have daily coverage for you.
