Felix Auger-Aliassime had to work hard in his round one
Australian Open match but he was able to defeat compatriot
Vasek Pospisil 1-6 7-6(4) 7-6(3) 6-3.
Auger-Aliassime entered this match very slowly as Pospisil took him by surprise. The older Canadian quickly piled up the game with some aggressive play that saw his flat groundstroke wreak havoc on Auger-Aliassime. The set ended 6-1 for Vasek after 37 minutes. Auger-Aliassime had only two winners and 10 unforced errors in that set.
The second set opened much better for Auger-Aliassime as he took an early 3-0 lead and it seemed like we were headed to a quick resolution. It didn't happen that way as he gave back the lead not long after that. We ended up in a tiebreak as Auger-Aliassime proved more composed for the 7-4 win.
The 3rd set was another one that ended up in a tiebreak but once again it was Auger-Aliassime who had the lead but gave it away. In the tiebreak, he mostly controlled it well jumping out to an early lead and never giving it away. The final set opened with an early break and Pospisil never really recovered from that.
