2019 champion Roberto Bautista Agut beats the 2008 and 2009 champion Andy Murray to reach the QFs in Doha. 6-0, 6-1. Surely one of the heaviest losses of Murray's career.
Roberto Bautista Agut defeated 2x Doha Champion Andy Murray in just over an hour of play 6-0 6-1.
Andy Murray does not get smashed easily but Roberto Bautista Agut just did that. From the start, it was evident that the Spaniard had much more to give than Muray who once again looked very flat. The Spaniard covered the court extremely well and Murray simply could not outhit him. Quite often it would be either a ball too wide or the net and the Spaniard simply applied more and more pressure.
Murray caved under it never quite finding his rhythm. There is not much positive to say about Murray's performance or this match in general as it lasted just over an hour with the British player winning only one game. The final score was 6-0 6-1 with Bautista moving on.
The defeat is one of the worst ones of Murray's career and a signal that clearly something is right with his game and confidence at the moment. Murray noted as much in his interview here admitting that not having a permanent coach to work with is affecting him negatively.
