Canadian fans were hoping to see a great match from Auger-Aliassime against Ruud but the Canadian completely bombed losing 1-6 2-6.
Auger doesn't get many chances to play in his home town but he played well this year reaching the quarter-final. Casper Ruud was the opponent and many thought Auger looked good enough to get the win however he disappointed in a major way. He opted for an aggressive approach which was probably the right call but the execution was anything but good.
Too many mistakes and particularly in the wrong moments gave Ruud a chance to turn a 0-1 deficit into a lead. Ruud actually dropped his serve in his first try, but came back strong to take the lead. Auger kept falling apart and spraying errors with Ruud getting the first set 6-1.
The 2nd set was not much better from Auger as he allowed Ruud to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. The Norwegian held his cool and finished off the match 6-2 to secure a semi-final. Ruud will have a chance to reach his 2nd ATP 1000 final on hard courts this week after Miami.
