Casper Ruud bounced back from his early exit in Bastad this week in Gstaad with a couple of solid wins to reach the quarterfinals.
To get into the quarterfinals Ruud had to take down Czech player Jiri Lehecka who played really well in his first-round matchup. The Czech player has a solid game built around his serve and forehand. That's a combination that generally can work well on clay courts but especially in Gstaad with the altitude and thin air.
The first set was a very exciting affair as both Ruud and Lehecka had to fend off multiple break points early in the match and both were able to do it. Ruud kept applying the pressure and eventually he was able to break the serve of his opponent taking a 5-2 lead. He would finish off the set with 6-3.
The 2nd set was quite competitive between the players but Lehecka had a lot more issues with his serve than Ruud. The Norwegian was largely in rhythm by now and that showed. Lehecka was able to hold his serve for a while but eventually, he faltered and Ruud took the break. He would finish it off with 6-4.
