Pedro Martinez and Casper Ruud will play in the Generali Open final after both score victories on Friday.
Casper Ruud will get a chance to win another match after he was able to overcome Arthur Rinderknech sets. The Norwegian player started off the match well taking an early break but the match was then cut short because of rain. Several hours passed before the players resumed play and once it did it was Ruud's match once more.
He proceeded to win the first set with 6-3 with 2nd set being a much closer affair. Both players played really well and neither allowed a single break point in the 12 games. We ended up in a tiebreak where Rinderkench held a 3-1 lead and had a set point at 7-6 but Ruud was not to be denied.
He won it with 9-7 to extend his winning streak to 11 matches. He will go for a 12th against Pedro Martinez who played his best stretch of tennis ever this week in Kitzbuhel. The Spaniard is in the final after scoring some impressive victories. Today he had a comeback win over Daniel Altmaier 4-6 6-3 6-3.
It was a very fun match that lasted well over two hours and featured several medical timeouts. Martinez was feeling the effects of several matches and took several ones while also being able to overcome the match. Tough to see how he can beat a red-hot Ruud but he will try.
