Croatia puts picture on Marin Cilic on bench to inspire each other in Davis Cup

Marin Cilic was not playing for Croatia in the Davis Cup qualifiers but the Team put a picture of him on the bench to motivate the players.

For years, Cilic has been the centrepiece of the Davis Cup delivering huge wins several times over the years. He even lead the country to a triumph in 2018 which was the second time Croatia won the competition.

Cilic was not with his teammates this time around but after losing in round one, the team elected to put a picture of him on the bench with them and it worked. The team started playing much better and won the remaining two matches with Borna Gojo explaining what it means:

"So I was in Madrid 2019 when Marin wasn’t there, and I lost all of my matches and the team lost all of the matches 3-0, so we tried to say, after the first day, after we lost to Italy 3-0 and we were down 1-0 to Sweden, we said, let's try to bring his spirit together with us so maybe something changes, and I guess it’s working."
