Daniil Medvedev barely pulls through against O'Connell in Doha

Daniil Medvedev was looking very good in this match but it became more and more interesting as the match went on due to the Australian rising up and nearly beating the Russian in three sets.

Medvedev was able to outlast his opponent in the end taking a break very late in the final set. The first one was rather simple for the Russian as he cruised comfortably past his opponent 6-2. He played well overall hitting some good winners while his opponent struggled with his shots. O'Connell played much better in the second set.

He served better which made things a bit easier but he also played more aggressively and hit more shots. He had two winners more than Medvedev en route to the 6-4 second-set win. The final set saw both players playing well but Medvedev didn't serve all too well. Despite that, he was able to keep O'Connell away from any break points which was crucial.

He had some chances early in the set but eventually the Russian wore him down and found a way to break his serve late in the match. He then finished it off 7-5 to secure the semi-final.
