The 29-years-old Bulgarian started the match really aggressively when he took the opening game of the match without losing a point. Lajovic continued in a similar style when he leveled the score and broke Dimitrov's service game to take a 2-1 lead. After both players held their service game, Dimitrov broke his opponent back to give fans in Belgrade the first tie-break of the
Adria Tour. Former world no. 3 then returned to the dominant performance to take the first set of the match 7-2 in the tie-break.
In the second set, Lajovic got close to winning his first set of the tournament when he was winning already 2-0 and 3-1. However, Dimitrov showed his experience and took the set to the tie-break. The Serbian crowd showed support to Lajovic who kept fighting in the tie-break despite being already 3-5 down. Lajovic then won another 4 points to win the second set 7-5 in the tie-break and take the match to the deciding set.
It seemed that players will reach the tie-break also in the third set as they both held their service games comfortably. Until the 4th game, when Dimitrov broke Lajovic's serve to earn a 3-1 lead in the third set. He then held his service game to win the match 4-3(2), 3-4(5), 4-1.
