America’s tennis player
Tennys Sandgren took a jibe at a fan
who questioned the reasons behind Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic’s appearance in the
Davis Cup.
A fan on the social media platform X — previously known as
Twitter — stated that the 36-year-old only participates in events like the Davis
Cup so he becomes eligible to take part in the Olympics 2024.
In response to that, Sandgren took a dig at the fan and
responded by saying: “He represented his country just so he could represent his
country some more!' Yes.”
Djokovic produced a stunning display in the Davis Cup for Serbia
where he defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets with a score of
6-3, 6-4.
The current world number one has recently secured his 24th
Grand Slam triumph after winning the US Open title in New York by beating the
world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final with a score of 6-3,
7-6, 6-3.
That victory summed up a great year for Djokovic as he ended
up winning three out of the four major tournaments.
His only defeat in the Grand Slams in 2023 came in the
Wimbledon final where he came second-best in a five-set thriller to Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
