Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic will not stay with in the Olympic Village during the upcoming mega-event. The 2024 edition of the Summer Olympics will be organised in the capital of France, Paris, where players from all over the world will participate to secure the ultimate glory for their respective countries.
Djokovic, who is already regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles, will be one of the big-name athletes appearing in the competition. However, per the latest report, the former world number one in men’s tennis will not stay in the Olympic Village.
“We expect Novak to arrive within the next few days, although he will not be staying with us in the Village,” was confirmed by an organizing member of the Serbian delegation while talking to CLAY. The Serbian contingent, which consist of 112 athletes, will be reportedly staying in one building. in the suburb of Saint Denis.
It is not clear why Djokovic decided not to stay at the Olympic village, but one reason could be the high demand for a picture with him during the 2020 Olympics. The current world number two is coming into the mega-event on the back of an impressive Wimbledon 2024, where he finished as the runner-up after losing in the final to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
While many claim that, as per Djokovic’s standard, that result was not good enough, looking at the circumstances and especially considering the fact that the Belgrade-born star had knee surgery just weeks before the tournament, it remains an incredible achievement to not only play the competition but also to go all the way to the final and lose to arguably one of the best players currently playing men’s tennis.
