Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic has revealed
that he is looking to stay connected with tennis even after retirement. The
37-year-old is already regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s
tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic has had an interesting season, failing to win a Grand Slam for the first time in seven years. However, the former world number one did manage to complete his trophy cabinet after finally winning the Olympic gold medal in Paris. In the final, he defeated Spain’s young tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
Ever since completing his trophy cabinet, there have been rumours surrounding Djokovic’s future, as many believe that the legendary tennis star is considering retirement in the near future after winning everything he could on a tennis court. The Belgrade-born star is currently in Shanghai, where he is
set to participate in the
Shanghai Masters for the first time since 2019. Talking
ahead of the event, Djokovic talked about his love for the sport and revealed
that he is looking to stay connected with tennis after post-retirement.
"My love for tennis will never fade away. I have a lot
of emotions when I'm playing, and not particularly only in the tournament, but
also practice sessions," he said. "Sometimes it's not always going
your way, but I think my relationship with tennis goes much deeper than a
tournament or a year or success or failure, it's just, you know, a sport that I
fell in love with when I was very young, and I still have the love for the
sport. Even when I retire from professional tennis, I feel like I'm going to
stay in tennis, stay involved in, you know, in different roles, because I feel
like I owe this sport a lot for what it has been giving to me."
