Emma Raducanu kept her decision to withdraw from the Kremlin Cup in Moscow secret not letting the LTA known about it until officially announcing it.
The Governing body of Britsh Tennis (LTA) has been caught off guard with the decision of Emma Raducanu to withdraw from the Kremlin Cup in Russian next week. Raducanu was set to compete at the event but made a u-turn several days after crashing out of the Indian Wells Master one week earlier. Raducanu's schedule is currently being determined by her managing agency (IMG) and the WTA Tour.
Therefore the LTA has no insight into what Raducanu plans to do next, which is something not well received within the governing body. The decision to pull out of Moscow surprised a lot of people within the organization especially with Raducanu not letting them know beforehand. They found out after the decision was made and she released a statement:
“Unfortunately I’ve had to make a tournament schedule change and won’t be able to play Moscow this year but I hope to compete there and in front of the Russian fans next year. I look forward to returning to the Tour in the next couple of weeks.”
