Emma Raducanu wins 2022 Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award

Emma Raducanu has been named Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award winner today for her stunning rise over the summer at Wimbledon and US Open specifically.

Raducanu accepted the award while in Stuttgart for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix saying:

"Thank you so much to the Laureus Academy for voting. It means so much to receive this award and I really want to congratulate my other Nominees. I feel like it's been a really great year for me but I've still got a lot of work to do. Thank you very much"

She was also shown a congratulatory message by Li Na, who alongside Simona Halep is a longtime idol of hers. Na is a member of the Laureus Academy and took part in choosing the winner of this award. After seeing that message, Raducanu said:

"It means very much to this message from you. You've been an inspiration for me all my career and I remember watching you. Thank you very much."
