The FFT president Gilles Moretton spoke out against the Davis Cup once more bashing the ITF for a lack of transparency.
Gilles Moretton is very outspoken in his views about various tennis topics and he's been the most vocal critic of the Davis Cup and the way it's being managed. He told L'Equipe this week:
“In the current configuration, we cannot move forward on the Davis Cup. Because
there is no transparency at the ITF. We have very little information on
the contract with Kosmos and on the conditions under which we could
possibly get out of it.”
Earlier this year he launched an attack on Kosmos itself who are managing the event for the next 20+ years after signing an exclusive contract with them.
He said:
“For me, and this is what I said in my intervention, the ITF
should not consider padel as a spare tire and should focus on tennis,
because the situation is far from extraordinary with the Davis Cup and
the Billie Jean King Cup. The primary mission
of the ITF is the promotion and development of tennis throughout the
world. And I remember that the Davis Cup was a great tool for this
promotion. (…) We gave in to the allure of money.”
