Taylor Fritz and
Madison Keys got the nominations for the US Team on day one of the
United Cup and they proved comfortable in that role sealing the win over the Czech Republic.
Fritz was the first one to step on the court as the American took on Jiri Lehecka in what ended up being a pretty comfortable win for him. Fritz has been active in exhibitions already and that proved vital as Lehecka clearly wasn't on the same level in this one. He battled fine but eventually could not stay with Fritz in rallies and committed far too many errors.
6-3 6-4 was the final score as the US took a 1-0 lead. The second match featured Madison Keys taking on Marie Bouzkova and it was quite similar to what happened in the ATP match. Keys dictated the rallies against Bouzkova who mostly looked to defend but it didn't work. Similar to last year, the American looks very good early in Australia and she finished off the match 6-4 6-3.
A very goods start for the US Team that many consider the favourites to win the United Cup.
