"Happy to be through" says Zverev after squeezing past Krajinovic in Vienna

Alexander Zverev kicked off the Erste Bank Open campaign with a narrow two sets win over Filip Krajinovic of Serbia.

The German was in a rhythm early in the match smashing the Serbian 6-2 but needed a much bigger effort to win the 2nd set. Zverev was down a break for the majority of the 2nd set but he rallied in time to win the 2nd set and advance in two sets. After the match he said:

“He was playing well as well, so I knew that I [was] going to get a chance."

Zverev patiently waited in the 2nd set and after getting the break gifted back he was able to stay in the match and close out the 2nd set. Tha rallying from behind coincided with his improved play which is something he underlined after the match:

"I just needed to start playing a little bit better and that’s what I did."

For the German, the most important thing is to be through especially in two sets and especially after he really should have lost the 2nd set:

"I’m happy to be through in two sets.”

The German will face Alex De Minaur next in what is shaping up to be a brilliant 2nd round matchup in Vienna. The event has one of the strongest draws of the whole year.
