Nick Kyrgios caught a lot of heat for his abrupt withdrawal from the
United Cup and the event boss came out to defend him saying he tried everything.
Kyrgios was heavily criticized for the way he pulled out of the United Cup due to an injury as many thought he just didn't want to play. That was denied by United Cup boss Stephen Farrow who said that Kyrgio tried everything in his power to play for Australia. Lleyton Hewitt wasn't impressed with Kyrgios and his 'lack of communication' but Farrow said:
“We would have loved for him to have played. I spoke to him a couple of times because he was practising in Sydney. He wasn’t able to play. He wanted to play, I talked to him about it. To be fair to Nick, he gave himself every opportunity to be able to play."
Farrow added:
"He was out there
practising. He had a pretty tough session out there on the day before
ultimately he said he was going to pull out. He was doing his best to
play. It is a real shame he’s not out there, but having said that we’ve got loads of great players playing the event.”
