Former Spanish player Feliciano Lopez believes that Italy’s Jannik Sinner will end up winning more than 10 Grand Slams in his career. The 23-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category along with the likes of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner has recently had a fabulous season. The San Candido-born star rounded off the season after lifting the ATP Finals for the first time, while playing on the home soil in Turin. He defeated America’s Taylor Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. It was his third major title in 2024. Earlier, he lifted the Australian Open after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6,3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
Just few months before the ATP Finals, Sinner lifted the US Open as well after beating Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Former Spanish player Lopez has recently spoken to the Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, where he predicted that Sinner can go on to win as many as 14 Grand Slams in his career. The 43-year-old was of the opinion that the 23-year-old has improved drastically in the recent past which is why he is getting so much success on the court.
“It’s hard to say [how many Grand Slams Sinner will win,” said Lopez. “He’ll definitely be in double figures, let’s say 14. This year he has had a season beyond all logic, winning an unreal number of matches. There is no doubt, he deserves to be number 1 in the world. If there’s one thing more impressive than the intensity of his tennis, it’s his ability to keep the bar high. Everyone else has their ups and downs, but he doesn’t. If I think about it, two years ago he was a different player and today he still wants to improve, so I imagine how he could play if he continued like this.”
