Corentin Moutet once again steals the spotlight for his controversies after getting into heated arguments with the crowd during his match against Alejandro Tabilo. The world No. 76 took the first set and was a break up in the second, when the crowd, increasingly supporting Tabilo, caused the Frenchman to lose his patience.

The South American had strong support from the Chilean crowd residing in Miami, who already had a history with Moutet. The Frenchman had previously had several altercations with the Chilean crowd during his victories against other Chilean representatives.

Moutet overcame a tough start, being down 1-4, but managed to string together a good run of games, turning the set around (7-5) and going ahead 2-0 in the second, which seemed like it would be another disappointment for the 30th seed Tabilo.

However, the South American fought back, breaking twice in a row and taking a 5-2 lead. The atmosphere grew more tense as the crowd cheered louder between Moutet's serves, celebrating whenever he missed his first serve.

When Tabilo was serving for 5-3 in the third set, Moutet responded to the crowd by sarcastically celebrating Tabilo's first serve error. After winning the point, he yelled, “Chile, Chile, Chile,” mocking the crowd. When Tabilo had set point in his favor, Moutet went to sit in his chair, telling the umpire that he couldn’t continue playing. The chair umpire ignored Moutet's complaints, who refused to return to the court, and he was given a warning and later a point penalty, which awarded the set to Tabilo.

The Frenchman interrupted the match for several minutes, arguing with the umpire while receiving more jeers from the Chilean crowd. The chair umpire then issued a game penalty while Moutet refused to play, which gave the 27-year-old Chilean his first game win.

It’s not the first time Moutet has clashed with the Chilean crowd. Back in the 2024 Chile Open, he eliminated defending champion and local star Nicolas Jarry, and Moutet was also displeased with the Chilean crowd's reactions. A few months later, he was drawn to face Jarry again and stoked the tension by posting on social media, asking the crowd to be against Jarry, as he would be the local player this time.
