One week after losing to Auger-Aliassime in the Basel final, Holger Rune exacted revenge by beating him in the Paris semi-final 6-4 6-2.
It was quite a convincing win by Holger Rune who is quickly emerging as one of the best players in the world. The Danish player will contest his maiden ATP 1000 final tomorrow against either Djokovic or Tsitsipas.
Demonstrating his tremendous shot-making and powerful play, Rune took Auger-Aliassime by surprise. The Canadian played well but not as well as before as he slowly started to lose energy following another deep run, his 4th in as many weeks on Tour.
Rune dropped only a handful of points on his serve and broke Auger once to get it done 6-4 in the opening set. He was even more convincing in the second set as Rune applied heavy pressure with his return and Auger could not handle it. He started to spray more and more errors as the Danish player remained calm and cruised to a 6-2 finish.
