Holger Rune had a decent chance to take the Sofia Open but he lost to very good Huesler from Switzerland in a close match 4-6 6-7(8).
This was the second time the players faced each other this year and it was the second time Huesler was able to win the match. The Swiss player was playing a really strong event thanks to his tremendous serve that was literally unbreakable to most players.
Rune had a similar issue today as he was really struggling to win points on return. He was only able to carve out a couple of break points but he didn't convert a single one out of those four. The Swiss player converted his in the opening set to take it 6-4.
He had more to start the second set but wasn't able to do so. After that, Rune got into a good rhythm and he didn't allow a single one for the remainder of the set. He did have two set points up 6-5 but the Swiss player held.
A very good tie break followed and it was Husler who proved better, but only slightly. Rune saved a match point and then had two set points with Huesler converting his second match point to win the match and his maiden singles trophy.
