Holger Rune announced he won't play in Madrid due to a scheduling conflict between the Munich Open and Madrid Open.
Due to his ranking, Holger Rune would have to play the qualies in order to get a spot in the main draw of Madrid however the Danish player won't be able to do so thanks to a deep run in Munich. He secured a quarterfinal appearance in Munic with a win over Zverev yesterday and that quarterfinal will be played on Friday.
The qualies for Madrid start on Saturday which would make it impossible for Rune to get there, especially if he wins on Friday. The Danish player never played in an ATP final before and he certainly feels like there is a good chance he might do it after the win over Zverev. That seems to be more important to him than Madrid at the moment.
The decision was announced on his offcial Twitter profile.
