Famous tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has also questioned the agreement reached between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Italy’s Jannik Sinner. Both, the anti-doping body, as well as the 23-year-old, who is regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis, has been under severe criticism ever since it was announced that they have reached an agreement.

Famous tennis coach Mouratoglou, who is currently working with the former world number one, Japan’s Naomi Osaka, has been recently quoted in a report where he lambasted the agreement between two parties and stated that it seems like a ‘huge scandal’.

“The Sinner case is a huge scandal,” he said. “It’s not about whether he’s guilty or not, it’s about how WADA handled it. Everyone feels like there’s a double standard, which there clearly is (…) So it seems like they’ve managed to make it look like they’ve banned him a little bit, but not too much, so he can play the Grand Slams and if you look closely, he can come back and play in Rome right before Roland Garros – as an Italian – so it looks even more like a set-up. It looks like a travesty of justice. I understand that other players are wondering where the justice is.”

Sinner tested positive for the banned substance clostebol in two doping tests in March last year but miraculously managed to escape any ban. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) declared him innocent following a detailed hearing where his counsel claimed that the substance was available in the player’s sample because one member of the coaching staff had received a cream for the treatment of an injury.

WADA then appealed against the verdict in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and demanded a two-year ban for the three-time Grand Slam winner but both parties reached an agreement on Saturday.
